Years later, Elizabeth, the daughter of the governor of Port Royal, accidentally took out an Aztec gold coin, which was sensed by Barbossa on the Black Pearl. He believed she was the key to breaking the curse (because Barbossa and others thought she was the daughter of Bill Turner).
So Barbossa led his men to invade Port Royal and kidnapped Elizabeth, thus triggering a series of adventure stories.
